450 EXC-F - 2019

Model Description

The KTM 450 EXC-F is the most powerful Enduro bike in the E2 class and exploits the displacement limit to the full. It has been designed with low weight, a robust and well-balanced chassis, in addition to having an outstanding engine. This high-tech SOHC (single overhead camshaft) engine with a single cylinder and 4-stroke technology is the perfect choice for every rider looking to reach the top. In combination with first-class agility, based on a further improved chassis, the KTM 450 EXC-F is certain to be showing its heels to the competition for a long time to come.

The 6-speed transmission of the KTM 450 EXC-F with ruggedly sized gears is a tough nut to crack. It also has gear ratios optimized for the Enduro segment. For smooth gear changes, KTM has given the shift forks a low friction coating, has added special surface treatment to the 5th and 6th gears. To ensure that this technological marvel also works faultlessly, KTM has included its famed No-Dirt gear shift lever design to prevent dirt and dust clogging up the gear shift lever joint. The engine management system uses information provided by the gear position sensor to select the appropriate power curve for the gear currently engaged and the terrain conditions.

As is the case with its sister models, the KTM 450 EXC-F also benefits from KTM's DDS (damped diaphragm steel) clutch with a wear-free steel outer clutch hub and extremely heat resistant clutch plates. Instead of conventional coil springs, the clutch is fitted with a diaphragm spring, which is much easier to operate and which at the same time leaves sufficient space to incorporate a damping system. This arrangement increases both traction and durability. A Brembo hydraulic clutch mechanism is also included and ensures that the pressure point remains unchanged at all times.

The state-of-the-art Keihin engine management system with electronic fuel injection features a 42 mm throttle body. Due to the unique position of the injector, the fuel is injected even more precisely than ever before. The benefit to the rider – he can call up power instantly and has full control. The rider can also select the appropriate power curve on the optionally available map select switch and activate traction control for maximum grip. This enables him to accelerate at will even on slippery terrain.

In the cylinder head of the SOHC engine, the camshaft operates the ultralight titanium valves via rigid rocker arms that are DLC (diamond-like carbon) coated on the intake side. This solid construction makes for a high revving engine, delivering top performance to handle whatever grueling Enduro riding comes its way.

With the E-starter fitted as standard, KTM 450 EXC-F riders have a distinct advantage during Enduro races. At the press of a button, the KTM 450 EXC-F springs into life reliably even under the most extreme conditions. This is due to KTM's proven starter drive combined with a lightweight lithium ion battery operating a for model year 2019 an even stronger Mitsuba starter motor.

The KTM 450 EXC-F powerhouse is the most compact and lightest single-cylinder racing engine with a 450cc displacement on the market. As a result of having an efficient SOHC cylinder head and state-of-the-art electronic fuel injection, the KTM 450 EXC-F benefits from ground-breaking torque and power extending across a broad rpm range. Equally impressive is the low-maintenance crankshaft that has been made to last, with a high-pressure lubrication system and a plain big (bottom) end bearing with two force-fitted bearing shells running directly on the crank pin. The well thought out sealing concept with metal shims instead of sealing rings results in minimum dead space inside the crankcase and an ultra slim engine block.
